The Virden Oil Capitals have hired former Boissevain resident Branden Crowe as their new marketing manager.

Crowe held the same position for the past two seasons with the Melfort Mustangs of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League, while also serving as the team's play-by-play radio voice.

He replaced Lindsey Gullet, who left the Oil Capitals to assume a position with the new Manitoba Moose of the American Hockey League.

Crowe says he's excited to be returning home.

“It was just a good fit,” he said. “Just in discussions with the team, I feel like I'm on the same vision path as them and want to keep this team going as the marquee market in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League. It's kind of cool that I'll be able to continue the hockey work but get to do it closer to home where it doesn't take me 5, 6, 7 hours to get back for a family dinner.”

Crowe says his main focus with the Oil Capitals will be to create partnerships with local businesses and groups.

The team's home opener takes place September 25th.
