This past weekend saw the Cougars volleyball teams in action at home Friday and Saturday, while the women’s hockey team was away on the road to International Falls, MN where they played Rainy River Community College Saturday and Sunday.

The volleyball teams hosted the Red River Rebels with the women playing at 6 p.m. Friday and the men at 7:30 p.m.  The women started the game by taking the first and second sets over the Rebels, 25-18 and 25-22.  The Rebels rebounded in the third set to win 25-20 and continued that rebound into the fourth set which they won 25-21 taking the game to the fifth set.  The Cougars came out strong and won the fifth set 15-9 to win the match.  Kalin winter served 5 aces while Bryanna Sutlic served 3.  Erica Scott, Skyla Vanmacklebergh, and Morgan Donald were the top three attackers.

The men’s match followed a different course for the same result, coming out with the win.  They were slow to start, dropping the first set 25-12 to the Rebels, but rebounded to win the second set 25-23.  It was a back and forth game with the Rebels winning the third set 25-22 and then the Cougars winning the fourth set 25-17.  The fifth set continued with the back and forth, with the Cougars ultimately winning it 16-14 to win the game for their first win of the season.  Leo McArthur and Braden Campbell both had 22 kills and Steven Fawcett served 3 aces.

Saturday the women played at 12 noon and the men at 1:30 p.m.  The Rebels won the women’s match in three sets, 25-11, 25-15, and 25-19.  Jordyn Paddock had 6 kills.

The men had a much stronger start on Saturday, winning the first set 25-17.  The Rebels came back and won the second set 26-24.  The Cougars then went on to win the third and fourth sets, 25-18 and 25-19, to win the game.  Braden Campbell had 19 kills and Austin Chandler had 10 kills.  Cole Campbell had 11 digs and Steven Fawcett served 4 aces. The team now has 2 wins and 2 losses in their regular season.  

The women’s hockey team played Rainy River Community College at 7 p.m.  The Cougars won the game 12-0, outshooting Rainy River 106-1.  Captain Brooke Mead, who plays defense, had 2 goals and an assist.

Sundays game was much the same, with the Cougars winning 11-0.  Erin Doherty had her first American Collegiate Hockey Association hat trick during the game.  

This weekend the volleyball teams will be out in Otterburne, MB to take on the Providence University College Pilots Friday and Saturday.  The women will play at 6 p.m. and the men at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, November 24.  On Saturday, November 25, the women will play at 12 noon and the men at 1:30 p.m.
