Below you can find our Christmas Cafe guests so far. Merry Christmas!

Thursday, December 13th - Mennonite Collegiate Institute Choir

It’s Thursday, December 13th and the Open sign has been flipped over on the door to our Christmas Cafe. And it’s time to enjoy another in studio performance, but this time we’re extending our studio to include Buhler Hall at Mennonite Collegiate Institute.

Members of MCI’s Resonate Choir are our guests today. Morning Show Co-Host Chris Sumner stopped by the school in Gretna to speak with them, and record their performance of “Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays”. Enjoy!

After the performance, Chris spoke with three of the students: Gwendolyn Friesen who is in Grade 12, Grade 11 student Breanna Neufeld and Alex Fennell who is in Grade 9, and was the soloist in that performance. And what a great job he did, too! I asked Alex to talk about what it was like to be front and centre of his peers leading Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays.

Wednesday, December 12th - Wade Nerbas

We warmed up our Christmas Cafe again with sounds of the season by Wade Nerbas from Blumenort. Wade has been singing and playing the guitar for most of his life with some great influences along the way. He loves making music and taking classic Christmas carols and putting his own twist on them. That's what you'll on today's edition of "Christmas Cafe". Thank you for coming Wade and MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

Tuesday, December 11th– The Mood

This morning we enjoyed a visit with Morden-based band "The Mood" -- or at least 3 members of the band. The Mood is fairly new to the Southern Manitoba music scene, but has "burst forward", creating a stir with their rock n'roll sound, getting audiences moving and grooving along with them. For today, it was a softer side of the group, with Jeffrey Klassen on guitar, Robyn Epp on violin, and Josh Reimer on vocals. Enjoy their beautiful rendition of Lowry's "Mary Did You Know".

Monday, December 10th - Willie Enns

We hope you've been enjoying our Christmas Cafe so far! We started a brand new week today, with special guest Willie Enns, playing the Paraguayan Harp! Willie mentioned that he grew up in Paraguay, where the harp is the main instrument besides the piano, and he only started playing harp when he was 46! He is certainly talented, and we are so glad to have that beautiful Paraguayan Harp sound as a part of our Christmas Cafe.

Friday, December 7th- Quinton Blair

We enjoy opening the door to our studios to special guests all the time but especially at Christmas when we get to call it our "Christmas Cafe". Today's guest was country singer/songwriter Quinton Blair. A brilliant songwriter and a true heart for sharing a great story. We felt the warmth of that cabin you were sitting in Quinton -- thank you and Merry Christmas!!

Thursday, December 6th – Glorybound

Wednesday, December 5th – Gavin Penner and Taya Friesen

It’s time for our Christmas Cafe to open once again, and today we’re featuring Mennonite Collegiate Institute students Gavin Penner and Taya Friesen. The duo have know each other for years, but it took Gavin some convincing to encourage Taya to join us this morning. But once Gavin did that, the two got to work on rearranging a Christmas classic, which you can watch below.

And after watching the video, and listening to the song, you will probably notice there was some extra equipment in the studio with us this morning, including something which allowed the pair to record those backing harmonies and loop them through the song. Gavin told us about what he brought.

Tuesday, December 4th - Melanie Schwarz

Welcome to our Christmas Cafe. We look forward to this special feature of our Christmas season, as it is a chance to hear local musicians, LIVE in the studio, and get to know them a bit more as well. Today's guest is a cellist, who regularly plays with Morden-based indy-folk band "Lakes and Pines". Melanie Schwarz also teaches cello, violin and piano, and is a free-lance performer. We were so glad to have her as our guest on Christmas Cafe!

Monday, December 3rd - Grace & Orlando

It's Monday, December 3rd, and we've been looking forward to this week for a while already -- as we officially opened our Christmas Cafe! Now, we've been doing this for a few years already, inviting musical guests to our studio, to play us a song, and share some thoughts on the Christmas season.

Today, Orlando and Grace joined us, with a brand new Christmas song they wrote in July, called "December Sky".

We will continue our Christmas cafe throughout this week and next, so be sure to join us at this time tomorrow at 8:30am as we welcome Melanie Schwarz into the studio!
