A choir made up of singers from across Western Manitoba is going on a road trip later this month.

Konektis is a choir that has been performing in Western Manitoba for many years and in 2023 the group will be heading for a special concert at Carnegie Hall.

The trip to New York is for the concert called Canadians at Carnegie. Six choirs from Canada will be taking to the stage including two from Ontario and others from New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Manitoba’s very own Konektis.

“On April 1st Konketis will be singing at a wonderful concert at Carnegie Hall and we’ll be singing a wonderful repertoire with five other choirs from across Canada,” said Director Michelle Chyzyk.

“This is a really nice fit for us, and we really admire Carrie Tennant the conductor of the Vancouver Youth Choir and we’ve worked with her before. So, the idea of working with her and doing it at Carnegie Hall it seemed like a perfect fit.

This will be the first time Konektis has performed at Carnegie Hall. “It’s only the second trip we’ve taken as an ensemble. It’s difficult because we have adults coming from every walk of life and busy people. We have 35 out of our regular choir of 50 making the trip.”

The trip will include several family members and Michelle Chyzyk says it’ll be a great time in New York both on stage and off.
