Evan Nachtigall, Kolby Day & Ross Sheard of Wheat City and Zostrianos Gross of Shilo play their opening round matches today at Golf Manitoba’s Provincial Men's Match Play Championship at the Glendale Golf & Country Club in Winnipeg. Nachtigall will face Ryan Orchard of Carman; Day will meet Terence Rafferty of Southwood; Sheard will face Travis Bobychuk of Niakwa and Gross will take on Marco Trstenjak of Elmhurst. The winners advance to the round of 16. Jeri Lafleche of Clear Lake, Clara Peake of Binscarth and Cala Korman of Killarney play Saturday in the women's quarterfinals. 


The Boissevain Broncos will meet the William Morton Warriors of Gladstone at 11:30 a.m. and La Broquerie’s Ecole St. Joachim Braves at 4:30 p.m.  in their two round robin games at the Provincial High School Baseball Championship in Baldur & Glenboro. Carberry/Cartwright/Baldur/Glenboro will face the Stonewall Rams at 4:30 p.m. and Birtle/Shoal Lake/Strathclair/Rossburn Friday at 11:30 a.m. The top two teams in each of the four Pools advance to the quarterfinals.


The Winnipeg Goldeyes dropped a 3-2 decision to the Chicago Dogs in Rosemont, Illinois. Jackson Smith homered for the Fish who hit into four double plays. Winnipeg third baseman Dayson Croes had a pair of singles and extended his hitting streak to 14 games. 


The Winnipeg Blue Bombers walkthrough is scheduled from noon until 1 p.m. today. The Blue Bombers play their final pre-season game Friday night against the Saskatchewan Roughriders at IG Field. On Wednesday the football team added receiver/returner Janarion Grant to the roster from the suspended list.
