Mikey Milne had a hat trick and Gage Alexander made 35 saves as the Winnipeg Ice defeated the Edmonton Oil Kings 5-1 Saturday night at the Wayne Fleming Arena on the campus of the University of Manitoba. Owen Pederson’s power play goal 3:15 into the third period snapped a 1-1 tie. Maximillian Struele also scored for the Ice who evened the Western Hockey League’s best-of-seven Eastern Conference final at a game a piece. The series now shifts to Edmonton for games three, four and five next week Monday, Wednesday and Friday.


The Dauphin Kings face the Summerside Western Capitals today (5 p.m.) at the Centennial Cup in Estevan. The Manitoba Junior Hockey League champions and the Maritime Junior Hockey League champions both have 1-0 round robin records. Xavier Lapointe scored 21 seconds into overtime to lift the Flin Flon Bombers past the Ottawa Jr. Senators 3-2 Saturday. Souris’ Cory King drew an assist on Matt Raymond’s goal as the Bombers tied the game at 2-2 with 6:36 left in regulation.


The National U18 AAA Hockey Championships wrap up today in Okotoks. The Moncton Flyers meet the Cantonniers de Magog in the championship game of the Telus Cup while the Fraser Valley Rush take on the Durham West Lightning in the championship game of the Esso Cup.


Team Canada has the day off at the 2022 World Men’s Hockey Championship in Helsinki. Canada has a 4-1 preliminary round record after losing 6-3 to Switzerland on Saturday. The Swiss lead Group A with a 5-0 record. Canada’s next game is Monday against Denmark.


The Winnipeg Goldeyes plated five runs with two-out in the top of the second inning and beat the Lake Country DockHounds 6-3. The Fish and Dockhounds wrap up their three-games series this afternoon in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin.
