Gardeners are itching to get their hands into the soil as the weather warms up and greenhouses are busy preparing plants and displays for their customers with new ideas being showcased in both the gardening and flowering arenas.

Chris and Crystal Page own Sadler’s Creekside Greenhouse and Garden Centre in Souris.

“We’re still in the midst of transplanting right now, that’s keeping us busy right now,” explains Crystal.  “But time is ticking so we are getting our new location ready for Boissevain and getting things cleaned up and out on the shelves here in our Souris location.

Crystal says many gardeners start their planting during the Mother’s Day and the May Long weekends, but with warmer temperatures that might be sooner than expected.

“We’ve had just the right amount of sunshine and everything is growing beautifully. So, yes plants will be nice and lush for when folks are ready to shop,” she adds.

Sadler’s saw a definite increase in vegetable gardening last summer and are expecting similar trends this year.

“So, we have been planning and growing for that need,” she shares. “We always try and get in some of the new and different items, whether that be vegetables to annuals to basket stuffers.  We’re just preparing for a busy season!”
