Organizers of the Christmas Cheer program in Killarney hope they send out fewer hampers in 2021.

Last year 83 hampers were delivered.

“People need to register by December 10th and the quicker people can register the better we can plan for distribution of the hampers and the hampers will go out on December 18th” said volunteer Marie Jensen.

Registrations are coming in but Jensen says at this point numbers are down from 2020. “We’re hoping that indicates the need isn’t as great as last year which is a good thing.”

Donations of food or money are being accepted to help put the hampers together.

“Bins are set up at several locations around town. You can e-transfer and to find out more on that go to our website Killarney and Area food bank or you can mail us a cheque at Box 193.”

The hampers will include food items to make a traditional Christmas meal, chocolates and gifts for each member of the family.

“We cover quite wide area going from Killarney to Cartwright, Belmont-Baldur and Wawanesa. We have a large area and we hope we don’t have quite as many because that means its good for the community.”

“The people of the Killarney area are always generous with donations. Anytime there’s a need a cheque arrives in the mail or foo don the door step. It has been a wonderful experience working for the food bank” said Marie Jensen.
