A grant through FCC’s AgriSpirit Fund will allow the Glenboro Agriculture Society to make some much needed upgrades to the community hall.

The agriculture society was one of several Manitoba groups to secure funding for community projects.

“We were allocated $25,000 and that money will be used to upgrade the washrooms in the hall” said ag-society secretary-treasurer Linda Naismith.

“We’ll change the counters in the bathrooms and I think the toilets. We’ll do some painting and fix the walls. Just some general maintenance because we haven’t done any upgrades for several years. Last year some pipes froze and that caused some damage and that sped up the need to do the repairs.”

Since the start of the pandemic Naismith says the community hall hasn’t seen a lot of use but she says demand to use the facility is coming back because it’s the main hall in Glenboro.

“The grant will cover the project’s total cost and we plan to get started in January and have the work done by the end of February.”

“We don’t know if we will go ahead with our fair this coming year but hopefully next year we are back in full swing.

Naismith says the down time for the organizers can make it difficult to get back up and running.

“That’s a challenging question because the younger people are stepping forward now and we hope to keep that momentum going in the future.”
