Harvest operations across Manitoba are picking up again after the weekend of rain. But as spring cereal crops continue to be harvested, Manitoba Agriculture's Pam de Rocquigny says the wet conditions over the last few weeks have put a bit of a dent in what's coming off the field.

"Even though the yields are above average, it looks like the quality is a bit below average," says de Rocquigny. "That's just largely due to weathering."

Manitoba Agriculture's weekly crop report shows in the southwest, spring cereal harvest ranges from 20 to 70 per cent complete, and 80 to 100 per cent complete in the central region.

Canola harvest also continues across the province, while longer season crops continue to mature. The crop report also shows that in the Interlake, soybean leaves have started to change colour and drop, while in the east and southwest, soybeans are in the late-R6 to mid-R7 growth stages.

The central area, though, is looking closer to harvest.

"They expect soybean harvest will begin when some of the fields dry up, and that could actually be later this week," de Rocquigny says. "I did hear of some fields actually being harvested late last week, but we haven't heard any yields so far to date."

Winter wheat seeding is also underway in the province, and fall field work, including tillage and soil testing, is on-going.
