The fall session of the Manitoba Legislature got underway this week.

PC Agriculture Critic Blaine Pederson says one of the big issues he'll have on the agenda is the lack of water management in the province.

Pederson says the NDP government is planning to sign an agreement with Saskatchewan, but that will only address water issues only when they arise.

He notes that doesn't fix the problem.

"That's concerning because that doesn't deal with problems in a long-term manner," Pederson explained. "What we would like to see is a partnership develop with landowners, municipalities, our neighbouring provinces and states so that we can actually develop long-term water management to deal with the floods and also, always keep in mind we need to talk about drought proofing too."

Pederson says another issue that he hopes to deal with during the fall sitting are the tough regulations that are currently in place for local food producers.
