Cereal crops, canola, corn, and peas are starting to emerge as seeding operations in the province are about halfway done, according to Manitoba Agriculture.

The latest crop report says seeding is 45 per cent complete in the Southwest and Eastern regions, 40 to 75 per cent complete in the Central region, and 40 per cent complete in the Interlake region.

In terms of soil moisture in Manitoba, Manitoba Agriculture cereal specialist Pam de Rocquigny says it's a mixed bag across the province.

"There are areas within Manitoba that would definitely benefit from some precipitation, so I think the precipitation that's in the forecast would be welcomed by some producers," she says, "and we've heard some producers have put a pause on seeding operations at this point, waiting for moisture so they can seed some of their crops such as canola."

However, de Rocquigny adds certain areas of the province, such as the Interlake, don't need any more precipitation at the moment, as fields have just dried down enough for producers to start seeding.
