Good growing conditions in Russia are pointing toward a record wheat harvest for the country.

G3 Canada weather and crop specialist Bruce Burnett says it's a little early to be this optimistic on wheat projections, although he notes favourable growing conditions in places like Russia and the Ukraine have put pressure on world wheat markets lately.

"As crops in Russia and Ukraine, as well as Europe and the United States, gain in yield potential, it looks as if potential supplies this year will be fairly similar to last year," Burnett says.

Looking closer to home, Burnett says seeding is going well on the Prairies, estimating progress it at 96 per cent complete.
