Around 23,000 cobs of corn were husked this weekend and given away at the Corn and Apple Festival in Morden.

Volunteers used an old fashioned corn husker and steam engine to get the job done.

Roy MacLean, co-chair of the corn husking committee, says this year's corn crop was in excellent shape.

"It's super sweet corn, it's grown locally," explained MacLean. "This year for a growing year has been outstanding. We got the corn planted in good time this year. We've had ideal rains, we've had lots of heat and the cobs are big and full and juicy...The corn has been beautiful this year, maybe the best we've ever had."

MacLean notes in addition to the 23,000 cobs given away, another 23,000 cobs were sold to the public - marking one of the busiest festivals to-date.

This year marked the 50th anniversary of the Morden Corn and Apple Festival.
