Monsanto is looking forward to the launch of its new glyphosate-dicamba tolerant soybean system.

Cornie Thiessen is the trait and licensing business lead for Monsanto Canada.

He says the new Xtend Crop System will help in the fight against herbicide resistant weeds.

"We all know that one of the best ways to manage the risk of herbicide resistant weeds is through multiple modes of action and we really like dicamba as an additional mode of action. First of all because of its effectiveness over a wide spectrum of weeds, but also because it's a really nice complement to Roundup. We think this will really help preserve glyphosate as a valuable tool for farmers, while at the same time giving farmers that enhanced weed control."

Thiessen says in addition to a new soybean trait, Monsanto has also developed a new formulation of dicamba.

The company is hoping farmers will be able to plant the new soybean seed next spring.
