Manitoba Pork is confirming that a sixth case of the Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea virus (PEDv) has been found in southeast Manitoba this month.

General Manager Andrew Dickson says the latest case, discovered this week at a feeder barn, originally came back negative, but has since been confirmed as positive.

He notes they held a producer meeting this past Monday in Steinbach to discuss the situation.

"What we're looking up is setting up a disease management area, if that's the right word, to start sampling guys who we know are currently negative, but do it on a regular basis so that we can make sure that they stay that way and it will give us an idea of how this disease might be moving around in that particular area. Because it's a relatively small area that's affected here. The disease is not prevalent across the rest of the province by any stretch. We haven't got cases in western Manitoba."

The latest case was in close proximity to the previous five confirmed cases.

Dickson says clean-up efforts at the previous five sites are on-going.
