Brandon-Souris MP Larry Maguire wants to the Liberal government do more to help prevent the spread of the PED virus in Manitoba.

Maguire said he's been pressing the government for over a year to change the truck washing regulations.

"We had a Manitoba protocol in place that was working quite well," he commented. "Trucks were sealed at the American border, they came into Canada and went to the nearest place to be washed, were unsealed and washed. Now through the government, they made the decision that these trucks have to be washed in the United States, in their wash racks, which, when [using] recycled water in those racks, it's obviously leading to more disease potential than doing it in ours where there are no American trucks being washed."

Maguire noted that he brought up the issue last week in Question Period, but did not receive a favourable response from the Liberals.

Federal Ag Minister Lawrence MacAulay was contacted for an interview on the issue but has not responded.
