The Assiniboine River Basin Initiative could be next in line to use a cutting-edge computer modelling platform.

Aquanty, which analyses flood/drought situations, is currently being used in Alberta's South Saskatchewan River Basin.

Manitoba Forage and Grassland Association Executive Director Duncan Morrison says bringing the platform to Manitoba is worth exploring.

"It's very much an exciting time that we're in and we're very much in a learning process," he said. "Producers and communities and governments have been dealing with trying to forecast floods and drought and the risk mitigation potential of this computer modelling is something we all want to learn more about."

Morrison notes that in order to bring the project to Manitoba, they would seek funding from Growing Forward 2 and other industry resources.

Aquanty will be making a presentation at the Assiniboine River Basin Initiative board meeting at the end of June.
