Dan Mazier, who serves as Keystone Agricultural Producers president, was one of about 80 people in attendance at a recent forum to discuss electoral reform in Canada.

The meeting was hosted by Brandon-Souris MP Larry Maguire on September 24 in Brandon.

Mazier says he was impressed with some of the discussion that went on.

He believes more people need to head to the polls before the government starts looking to reform the electoral system.

"My greater concern is there's not enough Canadians voting," he said. "I think that's where we need to start with this whole process...Don't make it complicated at first. Get them voting, make it mandatory in Canada. That's not KAP's position, that's my own personal position. We need to get more people engaged in the process to make this decision and I don't think we're there yet."

Mazier says bringing in more minority or rural representation would be beneficial for farmers, but might not be the best thing for Canada as whole.
