Wet weather has definitely slowed harvest progress across areas of the province, and in some cases, it's impacting quality as well.

The weekly crop report says some crops are being harvested at tough or damp moisture levels, requiring aeration or artificial drying to achieve safe storage moisture levels.

Manitoba Agriculture cereal specialist Pam de Rocquigny says while a lot of our spring cereals were already off the field prior to the more recent rainfall, there are still acres remaining to be harvested.

"That wet weather that we've been having is going to have an impact on quality of the crop that's still out there, unfortunately," she says, "so hopefully we'll get a change in weather, and hopefully it hasn't had too much of an impact and we'll be able to maintain some of that quality as we go forward here."

According to Manitoba Agriculture, cereal harvest is nearing completion in most regions of the province, while soybeans, corn, and sunflowers, are maturing quickly. The full crop report is available online.
