The holiday season is often a time for family dinners, and Manitoba Pork says ham can be a great option for meal ideas.

Manager of consumer marketing programs Susan Riese says a traditional ham topped with apricot preserves or a brown sugar glaze can be a classic option, while a crown roast of pork can be a delicious alternative.

"You can stuff that or make the stuffing on the side. That's always impressive," she says. "Something a little bit on the easier side, but equally as stunning is rack of pork."

Riese adds pork can be an affordable and lean protein dinner option.

"Even though we all tend to indulge over the holidays, pork packs a punch from a nutrition perspective as well," Riese says. "It's just a great alternative to what is normally a turkey-centric holiday occasion."

Riese says leftovers from a pork dinner would make good accents in omelettes or brunch dishes.
