Now's the time that farmers should be thinking about purchasing private crop hail insurance.

That from Colin Harbinson, agent manager for Dale's Hail Insurance at Rempel Insurance in Morris, MB.

He says the best pricing is found around seeding time, adding you could miss out if you don't get in early.

``What we`re seeing now is some of the best rated field locations are already starting to sell out. We`ve had a number of township closings, and the reason for that is each company will sort of limit the amount of risk that they want to put in a township, and when you`re dealing with values of being able to insure $300, $400, $500 an acre, those numbers add up pretty quickly."

Harbinson recommends that farmers also look to insure their profits, not just their expenses.

He adds that private insurance also covers fire damage, in addition to hail.
