Over 40 farmers from Saskatchewan met Sunday and passed a resolution calling for the establishment of orderly marketing of grain in Western Canada.

Kyle Korneychuk, spokesperson for the Canadian Wheat Board Alliance (CWBA), says this is the second farm meeting calling for the orderly marketing of Prairie wheat and barley.

"This whole issue is, should farmers have any say in how their grain is marketed?" He says. "To me, that's a no-brainer. Nobody wants to work in an industry where they have no say in the final outcome. So I think farmers will work toward this goal."

Korneychuk feels the single-desk ensured efficient movement of quality-assured grain to customers, while guaranteeing farmers received the premiums customers paid.

According to one farmer in the group, annual audited statements of the single-desk CWB showed the orderly marketing system allowed Prairie farmers to receive over 90 per cent of port price, but now they are only receiving 40 to 60 per cent of port price for their wheat.

Last week the CWBA was in Ottawa meeting with and lobbying federal politicians on the matter.

However, earlier this year it was reported that the federal Liberal government isn't making plans to bring back a single-desk marketing board. When asked about it, Agriculture Minister Lawrence MacAulay pointed out the CWB is already now privatized as G3 Canada. It's reported he plans to focus on furthering new trade rules for Canadian grain producers.
