Dairy Farmers of Manitoba (DFM) is busy meeting with producers during its round of spring meetings.

The group was in Winkler Tuesday.

Vice-Chair Henry Holtmann says it's an exciting time to be involved in the dairy industry in Manitoba.

"We have new processors that are expanding their production capabilities," he explained. "We have a new fluid plant that's coming on stream and we also have a new industrial plant that's going to make ingredients. This bodes very well because in the past we've actually been short of processing capacity and now producers, once these two plants come online, will be able to produce their share of the marketplace."

Holtmann noted that international trade will also be a big topic at the meetings, with a focus on CETA, TPP, and NAFTA. Other topics to be discussed include new processor investment, premise inspection and the Quota Participation Program.

He says there are 285 dairy producers in the province, which are producing more milk than ever before.

DFM will be meeting in Steinbach on Friday.
