The Canola Council of Canada is encouraging producers to get out in the field after they've sprayed to see how the herbicide has performed.

Angela Brackenreed says its important to take note of any issues early, as resistance could be occurring.

She notes that in the Canadian Prairies, at least 21 different weed species are resistant to a number of different herbicides - some having resistance to multiple herbicides at once.

"It was in 2011 that we identified glyphosate resistant kochia as well," explained Brackenreed. "So resistance to glyphosate is obviously a huge threat to production as we know it, so it's really important that we manage this tool effectively so we can continue to utilize it in the future."

She adds diversity is the key, as well as detecting any performance issues early.

Brackenreed reminds growers to always follow the label directions when using a herbicide.
