Cereals Canada President Cam Dahl says that the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) could be completed in the coming months.

He notes it's extremely important that Canada doesn't get left out of the deal.

"The countries in the Trans-Pacific Partnership represent 40 per cent of the world's gross domestic product and we just simply cannot afford to be left out of 40 per cent of the world's economic activity," he said. "Some of our biggest partners are at the table, so just think of what would happen if Japan gave preferential access to the US and Australia and left Canada on the side. What would that do to our agricultural exports?"

Dahl says that even though a federal election is on the way, Canada's political leaders need to address sensitive issues that may arise during trade talks.

He adds farmers need to speak up and let the government know how important this deal is.
