The executive director of Canadian Foodgrains Bank (CFGB) says there was well over 250 grow projects across the country this year.

Jim Cornelius says he expects donations to be similar to last year, which saw them raise about $14 million.

He says there are a number of key areas they are focusing on right now.

"We have a very large program right now in response to the crisis in Syria," explained Cornelius. "Both inside Syria with many millions of people displaced inside the country, as well as refugees in the neighbouring countries. We're working with a lot of displaced people in South Sudan, where the civil war continues to go on there. And we're just starting up a major response to a wide-spread and very severe drought that's hit Ethiopia. It's their worst drought in 30 years and it's affecting the whole eastern part of the country."

Cornelius notes that the Government of Canada also provides CFGB with 25 million dollars a year on a matching basis plus additional grants. He adds they are currently working out a new deal with recently elected Liberal government.

Last year Canadian Foodgrains Bank lent support to over 1.2 million people around the world.
