It looks like there will be a new giant in the agriculture sector, as it was announced Wednesday morning that Bayer AG has agreed to purchase monsanto for a price tag of $66 billion.

This is the third time Bayer has made a takeover bid, coming in about six dollars per share higher than its initial offer back in May. The latest offer values Monsanto at 128 dollars per share.

This is just the latest deal in a landscape of merging agricultural companies, as within the past year, DuPont and Dow formed a merger, and within the past month, Agrium and Potash Corp also agreed to merge.
