This week, Agriculture in the Classroom Manitoba (AITC-MB) is busy hosting its Amazing Agriculture Adventure for over 1000 grade 4 and 5 students from Winnipeg and surrounding area.

The three-day event is taking place at Richardson International's Kelburn Farm and also down the road at the University of Manitoba's Glenlea Research Station. Students learn about modern agriculture through 16 hands-on and interactive stations.

AITC Program Manager Diane Mouthe says the event is real eye-opener for many students.

"They learn so much, because so many kids nowadays are disconnected from the farm probably three or four generations away," she said. "So they've either never been on a farm or they don't know a farmer."

Mouthe notes there are over 80 volunteers each day who help out with the Amazing Agriculture Adventure. She adds there is a waiting list for schools to take part in the event each year.

The event wraps up Thursday.

Similar events were held earlier this year in Brandon and Russell, Manitoba.
