Kleefeld, Grunthal and Niverville Fire departments were called to assist New Bothwell Fire Department at a hog barn fire Thursday night southwest of New Bothwell.

The call came in around 9:30 pm for an address one mile south and two-and-a-half miles west of New Bothwell. Fire Chief for the RM of Hanover Paul Wiebe says two feeder hog barns were involved in the blaze and are both a total loss. Wiebe adds the fire could've started well before they got the call.

"The barns were unattended since about four o'clock this afternoon so it could've started anytime after that."

Wiebe notes the barns weren't at capacity but still considered full. "Right now we're looking at about 3500 hogs lost."

Wiebe says the Office of the Fire Commissioner will be called to investigate the cause.
