Registration for swimming lessons opened a few weeks ago in Souris, with a great response from the community.

Rec Director, Carole Williams, says both swimming lessons and camping at Victoria Park have been well-received.

“This year interest has been fantastic actually,” shares Williams.  “We did open on the 5th [of April] and we surpassed any previous years’ requests that we’ve had.  Basically, right now, bookings have been for throughout the summer.  For us, our biggest months have been July and August, and so for us right now we are basically booked solid for July.”

Thus far camping is still allowed in the province and Williams shares some uneasiness about what the next COVID restriction update will bring.  They recognize the returning campers, as well as new campers from different areas of the province as well.  “Lots of times we have return customers, but we have noticed an uptake in different people coming into the community this year,” she notes.

Victoria Park facilitates approximately 95 camp sites with the big draw being their swimming pool located right in the park.  Many families have enrolled their children into the swimming program while enjoying the camping facilities at the same time.

Williams says they don’t know what the summer will hold for COVID restrictions, however they based their swimming lesson registrations on last year’s regulations.  “If they’re different, then we’ll have to re-group, but we are basically full for many of the weeks already.”

“We’re hoping that things get better and we can all enjoy a good summer!”
