Jump Rope for Heart is a Canada-wide event organized by the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Thousands of schools take part in the event each year. The goal of the event is to help younger students learn about healthy eating habits and healthy lifestyles.

Travis Laing, a Grade 8 teacher, helped organize Jump Rope for Heart at Boissevain School.

“It’s been a great day,” Laing said. “The goal is just to promote healthy lifestyles in the kids in grades one through five.”

The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada says that kids who exercise at least one hour a day are more likely to grow into healthy adults compared to children that don’t.

The Boissevain Co-op donated apples for the participants to snack on during their ‘nutrition breaks’ during the event.

Laing added that he thinks it’s great that the students are participating and enjoying the activities.
