Four teams are Chasing the Championship with the inaugural PWHL playoffs set to begin May 8th. The two best-of-five semifinal series will feature Toronto against Minnesota and Montreal against Boston. By finishing as the league’s first place team in the regular-season standings, Toronto earned the opportunity to select its opponent between third place Boston and fourth place Minnesota. The team announced its decision Monday evening on social media which made both semifinal matchups official. Montreal earned home ice advantage by finishing second in the standings. The winners of each series will advance to the PWHL finals where they will compete for the Walter Cup. 


Max Murphy had two hits including a solo home run in the Winnipeg Goldeyes 5-2 victory over the Kansas City Monarchs. Goldeyes starter Landen Bourassa allowed just two hits over five innings and struck out six. The Fish will wrap up their five-game exhibition schedule today at 12 p.m. against the Monarchs. Winnipeg will open the 2024 American Association season on Thursday in Texas against the Cleburne Railroaders. The Goldeyes home opener is Tuesday, May 21st versus the Chicago Dogs.


Winnipeg Jets head coach Rick Bowness announced his retirement from coaching after 38 seasons in the NHL. The Moncton native led the Jets to a 98-57-9 record during his two seasons as the head coach en route to a pair of Stanley Cup playoffs appearances. In 2023-24, Winnipeg set club records for road wins (25), winning streak (eight games, twice: Dec. 30/23-Jan. 11/24 and Apr. 1-18/24) and point streak (14 games: 12-0-2 from Dec. 13/23-Jan.11/24). Their 52 wins matched the franchise record set in 2017-18. Bowness was named a finalist for the 2023-24 Jack Adams Award which is awarded to “the NHL coach adjudged to have contributed the most to his team’s success”. Bowness served as a coach for eight different franchises and was behind the bench for 17 playoff appearances, including trips to the finals as an associate coach with the Vancouver Canucks in 2011, as an assistant with the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2015, and as Dallas Stars head coach in 2020. He is one of only three head coaches (along with Scotty Bowman and Pat Quinn) to serve behind the bench in five different decades. His 2,726 games as an NHL coach are the most by anyone in league history.


The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have signed eight of their 2024 CFL Draft selections including receivers Kevens Clercius & AK Gassama, offensive linemen Gabe Wallace, Ethan Kalra & Michael Vlahogiannis, defensive lineman Kyle Samson, linebacker/long snapper Ian Leroux and defensive lineman Owen Hubert. Rookie camp begins Wednesday while main camp starts Sunday. The Bombers first pre-season game is Monday, May 20th in Regina against the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
